Job Description for GE Jobs 2022
- Responsible for specifying motors used in a variety of onshore wind turbines applications.
- Motors range in size from 4MVA to 40kva,and are both high speed and low speed varieties.
- Responsible for ensuring the right balance between motor cost, capability and lifetime, as well as system level integration with the rest of the electrical and mechanical system.
- Work with sourcing and manufacturing to ensure we have multiple qualified products from a variety of motor and drives OEMs and be the technical focal point for any quality or fulfillment issues.
- Experience with wind turbines or other grid connected power generation and industrial applications is highly valued.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop specifications for motors used in pitch system applications, translating wind turbine system requirements into hardware definition.
- Support qualification and testing by suppliers.
- Develop and drive cost reduction ideas for motors, brakes and other hardware related to the pitch system.
- Support root cause analysis of field issues, including testing to recreate failures and validate fixes.
- Design motors by determining electrical & mechanical parameters.
- Contribute to research and development for new technologies, products, processes, and materials.
- Develop engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of materials.
- Work with cross functional teams (Sourcing, Program Management..etc) to drive effective solutions on Quality, Cost and Cycle improvements of the motors.
- Review Service Requests (SR’s) related to motors and drive design changes to improve field performance.
- Mentor early career engineers and help build the technical expertise of the team on motors.
Desired Characteristics
- Working knowledge of electric motor design optimization methods.
- Working knowledge of electric motor manufacturing, testing and development.
- Working knowledge of electric motor and inverter controls.
- Engineering experience with DFIG generators.
- Experience with low and medium voltage power distribution and breaker / fuse selection and coordination.
- Experience working with wind turbine component design.
- Experience with regulatory standards including NEC, UL, CSA.
- Ability and willingness to travel 5% of the time.
- Experience with design for six-sigma, design for reliability, design for manufacturability and design to cost.
- Strong presentation and communication skills.

GE Eligibility Criteria
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent knowledge / experience.
- Experience with electrical systems in industrial or power generation applications.
