Job Description for GE Jobs 2021
As a Mechanical Engineer in the Land Constrained Hub Subsystem team, you will be at the forefront of wind turbine technology and systems design in GE Renewable Energy Onshore Wind. You will influence wind turbine product development and be involved in the development of mechanical components in the electric pitch system from concept to implementation.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical accountability for pitch system mechanical design in the hub subsystem on the global onshore wind turbine platform. He/she will drive to identify key risks and subsequent mitigation plans. He/she will lead new product introduction programs and support the growing fleet of GE wind turbines.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Support design of pitch system control cabinets, including sheet metal enclosures and internal components, from concept to implementation for wind turbine new product introductions.
- Define cabinet component layout for electronic components, including printed circuit boards, contactors, breakers, etc.
- Develop wiring routing definition for cabinet internals and create wire harness schedules.
- Perform mechanical (structural, vibration) analysis on cabinet, cabinet mounting, and cabinet components.
- Develop and support mechanical tests including vibration, ingress protection, and corrosion protection.
- Manage bill of materials, approved vendor lists and product lifecycle change control.
- Provide product support for sourcing, manufacturing, and field issues.
- Support cost-out efforts, including multi-vendor sourcing and value engineering.

Desired Characteristics
- Technical:
- Experience working with certification bodies, including UL, CSA, and TUV.
- Experience with electronic and electrical components, including wires and wire routing.
- Wind turbine experience.
- Experience with GE Wind PLM system.
- Leadership:
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Self-starter with drive towards technical excellence.
- Ability to work in a matrix team environment.
- Proven track record of technical project leadership.
GE Eligibility Criteria
- Bachelor of Science or higher in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
- Experience in mechanical cabinet design and/or testing.
- Experience creating models in NX or similar.
- Experience performing mechanical analysis in ANSYS or similar.
