Job Description for Philips Jobs 2021
- Responsible for leading the support of engineering issues pertaining to existing products after production launch.
- Role includes managing sustaining engineering activities of the team, assigning priorities, tracking progress and managing tasks.
- The Sustaining Lead will be part of a Global SusTaining Engineering Team (STET) and will be responsible for the required design change or development required for sustaining Sleep & Respiratory Care products. This position is based in Pittsburgh, PA.
Key Responsibilities
- Support existing Sleep & Respiratory Care products in production including investigating root cause of product issues found in manufacturing and early life customer systems and implement product design solutions to improve manufacturability and prevent recurrence of defects.
- Drive/execute strategic projects according to business goals across multiple functional units including meeting internal stakeholder expectations as well as sustaining engineering objectives
- Manage and execute several lifecycle mechanical projects across multiple platforms by making decisions based on project needs, priorities and timelines.
- Be the business unit representative for STET in the CRB (Change Review Board) to make decisions on staffing & commitments for project closure
- Indirectly or directly lead a global team of assigned electrical and mechanical engineers to execute projects
- In addition, the Sustaining Lead needs to be a hands-on design engineer for critical projects thereby being responsible to review, create and modify mechanical 3D designs, and 2D drawings in Solidworks and potentially other S/W programs for legacy products.
- Drive product development (MLD or PDLM) activities including development of design concepts, prototype testing, engineering specs, and module/system level tests.
- Drive continuous improvement projects related to design implementation, manufacturing process, product quality and reliability
Skills
- Strong leadership and engineering skills/knowledge in product design and various manufacturing process.
- Strong collaborative abilities, proactively seeks out expertise and advice and input from others and works with both internal and external stakeholders effectively.
- Methodical, effective troubleshooting/problem solving skills.
- Proficient in CAD, specific experience and proficiency in SolidWorks required.
- Technical writing/ documentation skills for regulated medical device design environment, including requirements definition
- Self-motivated, able to carry out assignments with limited instruction, and efficiently plans, manages, and delivers development work for complex projects
- Knowledge of good design practices and experienced with DFMEA.
- Exposure to Mechanical Engineering design with knowledge in part design for Plastics, Sheet Metal, and Die Casting. Analysis skills including capability in thermal, structural, and tolerance analyses.
- Capable of evaluating design margins, tolerances, and reliability factors including, wear, materials strength, chemical compatibility, and compounding environmental effects.
- Proficient in CAD (Solidworks) and Project Engineering software (MS Project, Visio)
- Capable of managing project work in alignment with internal processes.

- BSME (Mechanical Engineering) from an accredited university.
- 7 years minimum of experience in an engineering environment. Hands-on manufacturing engineering experience is a plus.
- 3 year minimum project management experience.
