Alexa Prize Socialbot Grand Challenge 4 2020: The Alexa Prize Socialbot Grand Challenge 4 (the “Competition”) is a skill competition sponsored by Amazon.com Services LLC (“Sponsor”), where competing teams of college or university students build a conversational Alexa skill using the Alexa Skills Kit APIs that converses with users on popular topics and current events via Amazon Alexa (a “Socialbot”). Selected finalists (as outlined below) will have their Socialbots compete in an event scheduled to take place in July 2021, with the final results announced in August 2021. About Alexa Prize Socialbot Grand Challenge:
Alexa, the voice service that powers Amazon Echo, enables customers to interact with the world around them in a more intuitive way using only their voice.
The Alexa Prize Socialbot Grand Challenge is a competition for university students dedicated to accelerating the field of conversational AI. The competition is focused on creating a socialbot, an Alexa skill that converses coherently and engagingly with humans on popular topics and news events. Participating teams will advance several areas of conversational AI including knowledge acquisition, natural language understanding, natural language generation, context modeling, commonsense reasoning and dialog planning. Through the innovative work of students, Alexa customers will have novel, engaging conversations. And, the immediate feedback from Alexa customers will help students improve their algorithms much faster than previously possible.

Challenge:
The Alexa Prize Socialbot Grand Challenge will be competed for the fourth time since launching in 2017. A multimillion-dollar university challenge to advance human-computer interaction, competing teams will create socialbots that can converse coherently and engagingly for 20 minutes with humans on a range of current events and popular topics such as entertainment, sports, politics, technology, and fashion while earning a rating of 4.0 out of 5.0. Selected university teams will receive a $250,000 research grant, Alexa-enabled devices, free Amazon Web Services (AWS) to support their development efforts, and access to other tools, data, and Alexa team support.

Eligibility:
To be eligible to enter the Competition, you must: (1) be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or post-graduate student at an accredited college or university (other than colleges or universities located in any of the restricted jurisdictions outlined below) (“Universities”) and remain a full-time student in good standing at such University while participating in the Competition; (2) be at or above the age of majority in your country, state, province or jurisdiction of residence at the time of entry; and (3) not be a person or entity under U.S. export controls or sanctions. Competition is void in Cuba, Iran, Syria, North Korea, Sudan, the region of Crimea, and where prohibited by law. People who, during the Competition Period, are directors, officers, employees, interns, and contractors (“Personnel”) of Sponsor, its parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, and their respective advertising, promotion and public relations agencies, representatives, and agents (collectively, “Competition Entities”), immediate families members of such Personnel (parents, siblings, children, spouses, and life partners of each) and members of the households of such Personnel (whether related or not) are ineligible to participate in this Competition. Sponsor reserves the right to verify eligibility and to adjudicate on any dispute at any time.
