What is GATE Exam?

GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. GATE Exam is an All-India Entrance Test Examination, which is conducted for UG Candidates to get admission in top-notch institutes(IITs or NITs) to pursue their Master’s Degree or students who want to opt for PSU Jobs.

GATE Examination is conducted once every year, in the month of February. The main of the exam is to test the comprehensive understanding of the subjects, which the candidate is subjected in their Under Graduate(UG) Courses, which are Engineering / Technology / Architecture and PG Subjects in Science.

GATE Exam is an Online Based Exam, conducted jointly by 8 Institutes – 7 Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) & Indian Institute of Science, Banglore (IISc, Banglore).


GATE Facts

  • GATE Exam is conductec once every year.
  • GATE Exam is conducted for 25 Papers in total.
  • GATE Scorecard is valid for upto 3 Years.
  • Exam duration for GATE Exam for all papers is 180minutes (3 hours)
  • Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions are the type of questions asked in GATE Paper.

Important Points to remember

  • No Physical Calculators are allowed (Normal or Scientific strictly not allowed)
  • Don’t worry, you will get an Online Virtual Calculator, on your screen during the exam.
  • An applicant can appear for one paper only.
  • There is No Age, Attempt or Percentage Limit to appear for GATE Exam.

What is the eligibility criteria?

The Candidate registering must be in their Final Year or have completed their Bachelor’s Degree (eg. 4 Years for Engineering after 10+2 or 3 Years for B.Sc / Diploma in Engineering / Technology)

GATE 2024 Exam Important Dates:

GATE 2024 Registration will start from August 2022.


GATE 2024 Admit cards are only available Online and are released 2 or 3 weeks before the exam. (in the month of January)

GATE 2024 exam dates are conducted in the month of February. Paper-wise Dates are yet to be released. But the exams will be conducted from 6 or 7 Feb 2024.


When will the GATE 2024 Exam Results be declared?

The most-awaited GATE Exam Results are always announced in the month of March.


What is GATE Score Card?

There are 3 numbers you get in your result.

  • GATE Marks
  • GATE Score
  • GATE Rank

GATE Marks – GATE Marks the candidate obtains is out of 100.

GATE Score – The GATE Score which candidate obtains is out of 1000.

GATE Score is calculated on the basis of GATE Marks.

GATE Rank – GATE Rank is out of the total number of candidates who appeared for that paper.
