About AFCAT and IAF
Air Force Common Entrance Test (AFCAT) is a national level written exam conducted by Indian Air Force twice every year for the post of IAF officers. Through AFCAT candidates can apply for 3 major branches, Flying Branch, Technical Branch and Ground Duty Branches.

Pay Scale
Candidates selected after the clearing all the AFCAT Examination Stages will be eligible for the following package:
- Pay as per the defence matrix is, candidates are eligible for Level 10 Pay of Rs. 56,100 – Rs. 1,10,700, with (Military Service Pay) MSB of Rs. 15,500 per month.
Allowances: In addition to pay, allowances are applicable based on the nature of duty/ place of posting and it includes Flying, Technical, Field Area, Special Compensatory (Hill area), Special Force, Siachen, Island Special Duty, Test Pilot & Flight Test Engineer, Area and Remote Locality Allowance.
Privileges: Air Force Officers are entitled to furnished accommodation, comprehensive medical cover for self and dependents, Canteen, Officers’ Mess loans at subsidised rates, LTC etc. Leave (60 days annual and 20 days casual) subject to service exigencies.
Insurance: Rs. 75 Lakhs Insurance Cover (on contribution) is applicable to serving officers. Additional cover of Rs. 12 Lakhs (on contribution) is applicable to Flying Branch Officers.
Sports and Adventure: Indian Air Force provides state of the art facilities to play various sports and adventure activities (sky diving, microlight flying, mountaineering, water rafting etc.).

Upper age-limit post-wise for GEN / OBC (CL) / EWS is:
- Flying Branch through AFCAT and NCC Special Entry – 24 Years
- Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) Branch – 26 Years
Relaxation in the Upper Age Limit for SC / ST / Jammu & Kashmir Domiciled is 5 Years, OBC(Non-Creamy Layered) Candidates is by 3 years & for PWD Candidates is 10 Years.
Selection Process
AFCAT Exam comprises of multiple stages,
- AFCAT Exam and EKT Exam
- Interview
- Physical Fitness Test
Detailed Selection Process
- AFCAT Exam will be a 300 (Common for all branches).
- EKT Exam will be of 150 Marks.
- It is mandatory for the candidates opting for Ground Duty (Technical) branch to appear in both AFCAT as well as Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT).
- SSB Interview which will be conducted by Air Force Selection Board (AFSB), will be of 300 Marks.

- Selection of Entry: “AFCAT”; “NCC SPECIAL ENTRY FOR FLYING BRANCH”; “METEOROLOGY ENTRY”.
- Click “APPLICATION FORM FILLING”.
- Enter all the details with care and verify for the correctness of information entered in all the fields, before proceeding with the “Make Payment” option.
